05' FLOWMASTER KIT VS. SUPER 40 SERIES CUSTOM
I just got into a 05' GT yesturday and am board to tears with the factory exhaust so am eager to throw on some new mufflers. I've had flowmasters on a few cars in the past, and am really sold on there signature sound so I know I'd like to go with them. The problem is, on their website they describe the kit as a fairly quiet one on the graphs compared to what the super 40's would offer if I had a muffler shop throw on those custom. Flowmaster told me by phone that I would experience rediculous droning if I went the custom route, but Im not sure I will be satisfied with the quieter Kit especially since my stang's an automatic.... Anyone's feedback is desperatly appreciated!!! THANKS

i would say go with the super 40 series, thats my plan. there may be a drone but i can deal with it for a kickass sounding exhaust. it all depends on whether you are willing to sacrifice a deep aggressive sound because of some drone. personally, im going to deal.

Hey Drew47000000 - dont be an ***, dude! If some of us didnt stop by then you wouldnt get any feedback on your question.
You said, "I've had flowmasters on a few cars in the past, and am really sold on there signature sound so I know I'd like to go with them. And all I said was you are not going to get the same sounds as the 5.0 - I guess I should have asked which few cars and which signature sound you are refering too. Dont get me wrong here. I have the Flowmasters on my 06 GT and I absolutely love them. However, they sound NOTHING like the 2 chamber AT's I had on my 89 and 91 GTs. The signature sound just isnt quite the same as what you might have been used too.
I posted that comment last at 1:40 in the morning as I was heading to bed. Yes, it was short, but I was simply letting you know that the sounds are different now.
Anyways, WELCOME to the forum!! Good luck with whatever you decide and please post pictures of your baby later.

I have a automatic GT and you can insulate the trunk it will get rid of most of the drone. I did that and put a extra piece of carpet on the floor of the trunk and almost all of the drone is gone. I had steeda mufflers and they were the worst for drone sound at about 1800 to 2000 rpms.

Just a question for some of you exhaust pros. I am not certain how much room is under the Mustangs or if this is even possible. But if Drew47000000 placed the 40 series in different locations, would that improve the drone at all? I would imagine moving it closer or farther away from the header would change sound and drone. Am I off target and is there room to make adjustments like that on our cars?

RE: 05' FLOWMASTER KIT VS. SUPER 40 SERIES CUSTOM
Well I have to say when I was at the dealership I went to the used lot and saw some of the 05 and newer GT's with the stock muffler just cut out and replaced with various other mufflers such as the flowmaster. Personally Im now leaning more towards doing that custom job with the Super 40's just like "Quick S" said. I mean heck I can get those mufflers for like 75 each, so im only looking at about 150 for materials then labor for a shop to weild them on there, as opposed to the aproximate 300 for the flowmaster mustang gt kit. So financially it sounds advantageous, and not to mention I really want as much sound out of this thing as possible since its an automatic and im used to my previous 04 gt that was a stick. To also improve the sound im using the MAC Prochamber off my 04, i know it wont line up perfectly, BUT im sure the exhaust shop can make something work and salvage the chamber to save me 500 from buying the 05 prochamber..
