Default Take Your Aircleaner Off?

I just saw someone posting that you should take off your air cleaner before a race, to gain a few extra ponies!
Am I the only one that sees a problem with this?

I would never run without an air cleaner. I would rather run with a low restriction filter such as a K&N.

Not recommended. Not only will this cause problems with the engine, just as swapping the intake to an aftermarket design, but it's also letting debris get inside of your engine... Imagine a squirrel hiding it's nuts in your air box, and you take the cleaner out at the track... Nut goes flying into your engine, not good. (I've seen acorns and stuff in an airbox when servicing a car, but I'd imagine you'd see this if you were to take the cleaner out, just using it as an example.)

Just not a smart idea.

i was the one who said to do that and this is the reason y

he was askin about a race against his father and i was just givin ways he could get a few extra ponies so he would have a little more of an edge and i never told him to keep it off for a long period of time or even to take it off if the race was far away i just sugested to do it if the race was nearby and i thought it would gain the ponies cause i felt a major difference when i was testin my car out without an aircleaner after doin a few minor things to the motor and i felt a pretty decent seat of the pants difference but wut i had forgotten was this was a newer EFI car and mine is an older carberated(sp?) car hence the more air gaining power i also gave the suggestion of changin his oil with synthetic to get those extra ponies

and i dont like the suggestions of me not knowing much about cars cause i do know quite a bit about cars i rebuilt the motor in my car at the age of 15 and put a T-5 in my car 6 months later and have done all of the work on my car mostly myself and will be goin to a school for mechanics next year so i can become a professional mechanic cause i love workin on cars so much
