Default Insurance for Winter Storage

I have good regular rates from GEICO, but now I want to store my car for the winter with just comprehensive coverage and nothing else. For this coverage, GEICO wants only about $100 less than I was paying when I had full coverage and was driving everyday. I think that's ridiculously expensive for a car that will be stored unmoved in a heated garage for 6 months, especially compared to what I have been paying. Has anybody else been quoted decent rates for winter storage?

Check Progressive, All-State, etc. to compare rates. It is always a good idea to compare rates to make sure your insurer isn't letting your complacency allow them to stick it to you.

Comp coverage is still for driving. All you need is fire/theft/vandlism, should only be like 100 for a year.
In Canada I pay $30/year for $40,000 coverage for my stored 05

If it's parked in the garage doesn't homeowners pay anyway?

I have tried this before, same results as you are getting, seems as if they don't understand "storage". I gave up and cancelled all insurance til the spring.

yeah, unfortunately, I got the same results. I have to turn in my plates and provide them with a copy of the receipt; then in the spring, I have to pay $10 to get the plates back.

I wind up saving about $600 over the winter.

Sate Farm dropped mine to 85 bucks for the six months of storage.

Not bad for an 06.

I'm putting my 06 Vert up for Dec/Jan/Feb. My car is financed thru Ford....will they allow me to reduce my coverage while it is off the road?
