RE: 3.90's for a 06 auto mustang gt????????
i'll be the first to chime in with the corrections
1. a higher numeric value indicates a "shorter" gear - i.e.: a 3.55 gear is "taller" than a 4.10
2. the "whining" is not due to the gear ratio, rather the setup. improper shimming is the cause. a little is normal during the break-in.
3. motive gears are junk
4. I only paid $523 (including parts)to have mine installed at a Ford DEALER here in Cali - including speedo correction. SHOP AROUND
5. the people that say a 4.10 in the 5-speed cars are IGNORANT. THESE ARE NOT PUSHROD MOTORS! at 75mph with 4.10's i turn
2600 rpm. that is nowhere near hurtful for a cammer motor. it's not even that unreasonable for a pushrod motor.
everybody has their opinions , but you will find 90% on here to be the same -
3.73's for the autos. 4.10's for the sticks FoMoCo gears only!
spending an extra $40 or whatever the difference is to buy FoMoCo gears is better than hundreds on new internals

RE: 3.90's for a 06 auto mustang gt????????
I dont have motives because I was advised by my speed shop to only use FRPP gears. So I did.
The installation of the gears, from what I've seen is very critical.
I've seen the guys at my speed shop fit the gears on a car 5 or 6 times until they got the shimming correct.
Dont have any experience with Motive gears.
Anyway you look at it your going to really enjoy the difference.

we'll i had the 3.90's installed by Razors Edge performance shop in margate, fl.. they did an awsome job, barely any whine... they had to put it on and take it off about 4-5 times to get the backlash right.. and only cost me around $350...
