Yeah, but he did mention DD, and I bet he would like a windshield or roof for days when it rains...

Haha, the guys on 5th gear went through a car wash in one of those. Just to see if it could be done.

Realistically though, even a lotus elise is a bit of stretch as a daily driver. If you're over 5 feet tall you're likely to be feel claustrophobic in them for prolonged rides. So it's rather hard to have the best of both worlds when wanting a track car at the same time.

I autocross my GT all the time. At least 2-3 races a month. (yes I burn tires every 4 months). Anyway, buy what you think you will drive well. To be honest I went through a phase were I was going to sell my GT for a Lotus. I decided to keep the GT. The reason being is I just like the car and I don't care about having the fastest lap time of the day. At the end of the day it's all about fun with the car I love and if I improved myself from last time. So, go to an Auto-X event do a million ride alongs in a lotus and a mustang GT500 and find what will make you happy every sunday.

I have been debating whether to get a 07 GT500 or a 04-07 Lotus Elise. Now before you post, make sure you understand that I would be using the car I chose for alot of Road Racing, autocrossing, and daily driving.
You just answered your own question........

The Lotus

Those are two VERY different cars. The Elise is basically a race car that is legal on the street. Don't expect any creature comforts or a pleasant ride. It's designed to be light and handle well at all. They dominate at SCCA auto-x events and easily keep pace with C5 Z06 Corvettes and Porsche GT3's. Given there are not that many produced, you are going to have a lot of attention.

The GT500 is a muscle car and works best in the straights. A great car but still visually very similiar to the other mustang models of which Ford makes a lot. Only the real enthusiasts will know what you got (good or bad)

With that kind of price range, there are lots of other options as well. Why not a C6 corvette?

The Ariel Atom is a tube frame race car that you can drive on the street. Even less practical than the Elise! There was a turbo Ariel at SEMA that ran 0-60 in 2.5 seconds! *DROOL*

Someone has done what can only be described as a deathwish and a half.

Someone has put a V8 in an Atom.

http://www.dpcars.net/atom/index.htm

It's a 2.8L 5Vper cylinder engine. 210 lb torque but 375 hp. And the car is now 100 lbs lighter than the 4 banger model.

Edit: Sorry, makes peak hp at 10,000rpm and peak torque at 6500rpm
