Interesting question. Because for me when I first saw the 2005 Mustang I wasn't too impressed. The rear just looked WAY too high, plus there was the whole lack of quality, especially with the non-Premium's interior and the extensive use of plastic and vinyl.
But I think it changed for me when I started seeing 05's with the whole racing stripes, louvers, bigger rims, etc.
Then I read the performance reviews and the whole 0-60 in ~5 seconds beat anything else in the price range.
Then I sat in a GT and was impressed with the legroom for the driver and the passenger too.
But the real thing that switched me around was when I finally got a dealer to let me test drive a GT. This was in early 2005 when the dealers were asking $3000-5,000+ over invoice and weren't even giving test drives. I took out a GT Manual and tore up the streets and then all my car comparisons were pretty much shot, as nothing else had that kind of power!
I'm still very upset about the lack of quality in my car, as I have had dozens of issues, including the whole engine replacement thing, but still... what else is out there for under $30K that is this much FUN???
Maybe the new Mazdaspeed3...
Only time will tell.

New Edge jealousy(know many New Edge owners who go out of their way to say the S197 is A) Ugly B) A fat pig C)Too big).
LOL, yup.[8D] Yet you have several converted GM guys driving these. I'm one of em.

I had two 66 Mustangs, an 85 GT and now my 06, 5 speed GT. I think that the car looks fabulous, is well built, reasonably economical and a kick in the butt to drive. If it just had some low end torque it would be about as close to my perfect car as I could get. I miss the low end torque of the old push rod V8's. Yeah, yeah, I know, the 300HP GT of today will outrun my old push rod cars in a race. So What? I would rather have the low end torque because it makes it more fun to drive.

My $0.02,

For me, the 05+ is the greatest all arounder Mustang ever. It performs very well, is solid and well built and ranks right up there with the best looking Mustang's from the '65-70 era.

The key is that these cars are alot more then raw performance numbers.

We just picked up a 06 GT. The main thing is the look of the older Fastbacks. The performance is great for a smaller cubic inch motor. I would prefer less plastic but that is me and the way of the world these days. The other *main* point is my wife always wanted a Mustang and the ol saying "If momma's happy everyone's happy!" applies.

I'm a converted GM guy myself with this Mustang being my first Ford. I was looking for a car with some muscle, but I'm not prejudiced about brand so I was looking at Ford as well as looking at the Nissan Z and it's Infiniti cousin. What pushed me the way of the Mustang was not only the muscle (300 hp), but the fact that it was a V8 (love that sound) instead of a 6 and the body style is fantastic. The car LOOKS like a muscle car. I gotten thumbs up from day one. So for me it was probably 60% power and 40% looks.

I love the classic muscle car so it was mostly the look because of the retro look and the lines on this car are incredible. I was also a GM person and after I test drove a V-6 Mustang I had to have one. It is the funnist car I ever drove. Mind you I love my 2003 Monte Carlo SS and it being a dieing breed (and the 2006-2007 ones looks hidious- the car will be discontinued after 2007) I am keeping it as my show car. That car is more of a cruiser car. My Mustang is much faster than my MC.
