Matching Yellow Paint
Just a quick question. Someone hit my driver door (body shop said i need a new door) pretty bad while it was parked. They were nice enough to leave a note. Pretty pissed since the car does not even have 1000 miles, but is yellow a tough color to match? Some say it is and other say it not??

RE: Matching Yellow Paint
No where near as tough as sliver and grey metallics, legend lime would be a tough match as most metallics are. It is not a difficult match as a high quality shop will spray two or three good size test panels. These panels must be checked against the adjoining panels under shop florescent lighting but more importantly in full daylight (afterall that's where you will see the difference since you don't park your car in a spray booth) There's a decent chance that the factory spec mix will be right on, but the test panel(s) will prove this to be the case or not. Talk to a few shops about the match. You'll pretty much know by how they say they will go about it, which one to have do the work. What won't match is the clearcoat but a prof shop will sand the adjoining panels with #3000 and rotary buff that whole side. It will be a superior finish to the other side as it will have no orange peel but ya can't see both sides at once. Shop around for quality work. If they are matching BMW silver metallic routinely your yellow is no challenge.
