I'm wondering how it will work with my Truetrac diff? I would really like to get it quieter. I wonder how it will work in the winter? Here in Ky it can get down to the teens. I could putt around until it warms up after a few mins if that would help ensure fluid circulation. Alternatively, I could try a half/half mixture of the Lightweight and Heavy Shockproof...

I just ordered 3 qts of the heavy shockproof. I want the best chance of whine reduction so this should better my chances.

Well, I wish I had good news. It made it worse. Man...that sucked and ended up being a $90 experiment between fluid, right stuff gasket sealer, and shop rental and shop supplies. It was definitely worse.

I called the shop that did the install and they said they used 75w-140 Lucas Synthetic...if I had to break down and go back that way. Instead, I did try Lucas HD 85w-140 just to see. I think I'm about back where I was originally now but a narrower range. I think I might try the RP 85w-140.

The shop that did the install said they would retry for parts only. They pick the parts and I would step down from 4.30's to 4.10 and that would make me swap rear rims and drag tires. From 28 DR's to 26 slicks to trap the same rpm. I accepted but the wife is done spending money and wants assurance. I said go from a 10 to a 3 level of noise and asked "What if we get another defective gear set". I sent that Monday...it's now Thursday. It doesn't look like they're interested with those questions being posed and the assurance we need to get from them.

Since I don't have the time or energy to do these things myself in my spare time (gears I mean), it makes you want to buy a car and leave it alone as far as gears...oh, and torque converter also to a much lesser extent on the 3.7 auto's.

A stick would have been a clutch swap which seems like they have less problems as long as the mt 82 shifts at high rpm fine. I was just trying to take it easy on my old knee injury.

Just wanted to update this thread. The redline shockproof didn't do much to quiet my decel whine, it did quiet it, but not an appreciable amount. What did get rid of it temporarily was changing the pinion seal. The whine eventually came back, which led me to believe tightening the pinion nut got rid of it. So I went back in and turned the nut about 1/4 inch more than it was and put loctite on it. I'm going to test my work today.

Googling it, it appears that the pinion can lose it's preload over time and tightening the nut a little more might help. Emphasis on the little more.

all my decel whine is gone. I still have a slight whine at light throttle, probably too much backlash, not to worried about that.
