Default Longtube Headers and High Flow Cats

Talked to a guy who runs a speed shop and he said that running long tube headers with high flow cats and an X-pipe would not effect my emissions test here in NC. I would love to do these mods, but I was under the impression that Long Tubes are not legal in states that test for emissions. Does anyone here have experience or knowledge of this?

PS. He uses SLP headers and x-pipes.

Use the forum search feature, this has been discussed many times. It was discussed earlier today, in fact:

This thread has another good discussion of LT legality:

It has been discussed many times, like you can see in the above threads.

Simple way to look at it is.. It will pass an actual test of the exhaust gas as the cats will do the job.
Now if they do a visual check and check for CARB Cert tags then you will fail.

Thanks Al and vsop.

I'm still trying to figure out mods for these new age muscle cars. If the damn government would just leave us alone we could all have alot more fun. My only other question would concern the factory warranty. I have the 5yr/ 60,000 mile drivetrain warranty so I def. want to be careful not to void that. Do you think the LT's would cause any major problems there, or would it all depend on how friendly the local dealer is?

That is a dealership issue. Some are cool others will void for any reason

+1 Exactly!

More than likely they will just void the warranty on the exhaust only...which is not much of a concern. A quality aftermarket system that is stainless steel will outlive the car. The only way it would fail would be if it suffered mechanical damage, like being in a wreck.

I think the inspection concern is minor. Even if you have an inspection, most inspectors will simply look for cats, period. If you've got them (aftermarket or otherwise) they will probably leave you alone. The chance of you getting in trouble for having high-flow cats is about as likely as getting prosecuted for jaywalking.
