Default experience and RPMs

All right, I have now been the owner of a 2005 GT, torch red, auto, for a little over a week. I must say that I am still impressed with the car. the leather interior is comfterable yet retains the support necessary when accelerating hard. The Shaker 500 is a SUPER stereo system, I even like the speed volume option that turns the music up/down as you are going down the road. to be honest, I even like the silly different lights you can put on the instrument dash. Overall I am surprised Ford put out a car with so many options yet was able to retain the sports car feel and performance.

On December 7, I have an appointment for stripes and tint, after this I will post pics.

One question I have is, when I start the car it idols at just about 1K rpm. it stays there until I put it in gear then it drops down to below 1K. If any other GT owners with automatic trannys read this, can you please let me know if this is the same as your car ???

Thanks

dont have a gt but does it on mine. Gts and v6 have same auto tans i believe. Happens on my truck too. I think its normal. You can use a tuner and make it idle at 500 if you want but i dont really know what that will do for you.

All cars do this. It's their way of bringing up the engine temperature faster.

Yes, but is it suppose to go under 1K by itself without shifting gears ????

Yep. When the engine's warm in drops down below 1k, I suppose to conserve fuel or something? Every vehicle I've ever driven (including my Mustang) has done this. And it let's you know everything's warmed up under the hood and ready to start traveling.

All right,

I ran out to the car started it and it went up to 1,500 rpms for about 5 to 10 seconds

idled down to just under 1K

Everytime I put it in drive or reverse it went down to 500-600

Everytime I put it in part it went back up to 1K

do I have a problem ?? (dont think so but its nice to make sure)

Don't worry it's normal. If you are in cold climate it apparantly can get pretty aggressive. There is a similar thread going right now at

Relax, let it warm up for 30 seconds, and enjoy your new pony.
