Default For those with 4.10s, NEED HELP, Have ??

Ok, I need help here. Going to have rear gears installed, but keep getting different opinions on what to get [sm=headbang.gif]. I want 4.10s, but need some facts , So for all those that have 4.10s.... heres my questions.

I have an Automatic, Now the Stang is a daily driver, but maybe drive 5 miles a day or so, and I do take some long trips here and there which would be like 2 hours one way., but also enjoy the track as well.

1. how bad, really is your gas milage with 4.10s, what is your MPG??
2. with a high rev engine, I don't think its going to hurt a small block, but some facts on engine longevity with 4.10s.
3. so if 4.10s aren't it, then whats the next best thing, 3.90's or 3.73's??

Many thanks for the Imput [sm=smiley20.gif]

After having driven cross country with 4.10's and a manual the gearing was high enough to make me regret them a bit. Having not driven an auto with them I can't really comment on how much better or worse they would be in an auto but in a manual I would have gone with 3.73's had I started over again.

Gas mileage hasn't dropped or increased noticeably so I wouldn't worry about that, as far as longevity I really don't see the rpm's staying much higher and for your auto it would be downshifting most of the time anyways I wouldn't worry.

my buddy has a 99 GT with 4.10s and got 21 mpg 5th gear on those trannys is .67 though, yours is .62 which means you will turn even lower rpms

if not 4.10s the next best thing are 4.30s

I recommend 3.73 for auto, 4.10 is to steep on an auto. Remember you have 3.3x right now. Also do you have an exhaust done? Might be weary of changing ur gears if you have flowmasters or such because your car at 60mph will be in the drone range for those exhausts with that gearing.

LOL, I have Glasspacks on the car now, So Drone dosn't bother me, Performance is the key for me , which brings me to something else I heard [>:], I'm hearing that the 4.10 gear change might slow down my top end and hurt my trap or total time if the top gear comes too quickly and is too slow. True or False??

The only instance I see it hurting is if your run is going to top out the gearing of the car which I doubt will happen as the car will still probably be drag limited but just at a higher speed than before the gear swap.

I've been looking into this as well, and I have decided on 4.10's. I've got nothing but postive feedback of ModFords.com, and they seem to be perfect for an auto. Yes your MPG will drop slightly, and your topend will go down, but do you really plan on going past 130+. Now aslong as you stay N/A, or atleast if your going to stay N/A go with the 4.10's. If your SC'n then go with 3.73's. I looked ahead at where I truly want my car to be at, and I'm not gonna ever SC, so I'ma hit up the 4.10's. I'm going to get mine and my chrome differential cover either Thurs, or Friday. Then I gotta get an Appt. set at HPP to get them installed, and I'll let u know how it goes man.
