Gas Milage

Gas Milage
Hey guys, new member to the forum but I have been reading for a few months. I bought a '07 GT 5-speed a few weeks ago, and I am scratching my head trying to figure out why my gas milage is terrible. When I got rid of my '88 LX 5.0 a year ago, my hwy mpg was @ 27-30 with a 5-speed. My '07 can only get 220 miles to a tank! 85% hwy and 15% city. 13.5mpg! When I first got the car I gutted the entire sound system to put in my nav, amps, speakers etc... and I unhooked the battery. Someone mentioned to me the idle has to be reset, but I couldn't verify with the dealer. Maybe the engine isnt broke in?(600miles) Maybe there is something wrong? I even tried to baby the car the last tank. Any help would be great. By the way....It still feels GREAT to be back in a Mustang.

RE: Gas Milage
I think the engine/car is still breaking in. I have a about 7K on a 07 GT auto, and the computer is saying it is averaging 20-21 in mixed driving, and I don't reset the mileage calculator very often. Then again I tend to drive it like an old man.

I hope so...I traded in a 4cyl chrysler sebring that got over 30 on hwy.....maybe I am having v-8 shock again. I thought it was weird though that the dealer filled the tank 2 days after I got it, I drove it 5 miles to work and it was off full already...

First, how are you driving? Jack rabbit starts will give you 15MPG or less with the GT, even with highway driving.
Also how are you measuring MPG? Do a fill up, letting the pump shut off by itself, drive until another fill up is needed and go back to the same pump and fill it up the same way. Then look at the receipt and do the math.
My MPG on the computer is pretty accurate, but some won't be. If using the computer be sure to reset it often. New cars will have the worst MPG, especially if it was test driven!
Good luck and be sure not to use cruise control for long periods until +1000 miles.
