Nice link.
Yes they were lined up with the valve stem. You can remove the dot, just remark the location with a yellow pencil or the like should you be remounting the tire at a future point in time.

tire is "supposed" to be mounted with the dot lined up with the valve stem. But this doesn't always happen.

It involves proper mounting or as it is reffered to as 'concentric mounting'. So if you think about it and a tire dealer knows how to properly mount tires, the dot should not be removed. This is in case the tire needs to be remounted and rebalanced. This is the cause of many minor vibrations in new tire mounting and balancing issues regarding shake or shimmy in the ride (steering). Trustme, some will argue this point but it is true, been there experienced it!

I cleaned mine off. I sure wouldn't leave it on in case I had to remount a tire. That looks like crap.
Thanks again.

Did say that steel rims use alignment dimple, aluminum the valve stem. ...might have something to do with who's mounting them. I understand the concept of concentric alignment but not sure what the chances are you will feel anything. ...would think it depends on how far out the tires in particular are from centric balance and their position on the rim; everything is relative. The dot alignment could be much more critical on one tire vs. another, I'm thinking. Mfg can only get them so close but obviously some are right on and others are further out (within certain tolerances) Agreed concentric alignment is better than not for sure.

As BeeStang said earlier, the dot is placed on the tire to mark something (it's heaviest point?) for balancing purposes. Accordingly, removal is not recommended.

Did you see an alignment dimple in the rim? If not then what basis was used to locate the tire on the rim. Curious about this?
