I raced a 2005 GTO and won!
Got off on my exit from the expressway and have to cross one intersection on a frontage to get to my street. Waiting in that intersection is a silver GTO so I cross the intersction slowly and stared right at him in a taunting manner and let him get a good look at real muscle car. I thought he would just go about his business but all of the sudden I see some brights being flashed behid me. Guess who?
We go from a roll to the intersection light ahead and I pull him, he misses 3rd but it was too short to really know who is faster. At the light we talk and agree to go again but the intersection is too bumpy so we go the frontage road on the other side of the expressway. We go on three honks and I win by 1 car length. After it was clear who won, I roll down the window to ask if it is a 2005 GTO and kid says yes. Also he doesn't look a day older than 16. I tell him that your car should take me and he explains that car belongs to his dad and he hardly drives it. So, I won the race clearly but I will always wonder if I really beat the car or the driver.
BTW, this race was done on an empty street in a non-residential area.
I have a CAI on 87 tune, auto and 3.73's.

I say you beat the driver there but either way a win is a win. If if's and buts were candy and nuts it would be christmas every day. If grandma had a pecker she'd be grandpa. Congrats on the underdog win !

yeah, the GTO *should* win but the cars are so close performance wise, what, .5 second or less to 60 difference???
and then with your mods and the inexperienced driver of the GTO?
i'm not surprised at all you one.
i've got a standing offer to race with my friend and his '05 GTO. i've driven it and even he says i shift better then him...
so, there is hope for me, even though he *should* win...

RE: I raced a 2005 GTO and won!
Mr Mustang- a buddy of mine (AJ) bought a brand new 2005 GTO 5.7 back then... I just went with AJ to trade it for a 2006 6.0. There aren't a lot of the 5.7 around thats why I was asking. There is a big differance in the 5.7 to the 6.0. I use to smoke that 5.7 (have more mods then you). 2 weeks ago went to the track with the AJ and (windy track conditions) non the less he had the better time and he is still stock. His 5.7 only had an intake and throttle body spacer and stilll got beat.

I was under the impression that all 2005 GTO's have the LS2 (6.0) set up with the dual exaust. Are you saying that for 2005 there was an option to have a 5.7? Here are the specs for the 2005 GTO from ultimateGTO.com:
"The 2005 GTO was redesigned slightly from it's 2004 design. There are three big changes over the 2004 design: hood scoops, split dual exhaust pipes, and 50 more horsepower. This is a rear wheel drive car that is powered by a 400hp LS2 V8 engine. It is built for the US market in Australia by General Motors Holden."

MR Mustang- You are right. I made a mistake and he an 04 not 05. I just called him to make sure and well I was wrong...I dunno why I was thinking that he had the 05 but owell you're right- sorry for the confusion

No need to apologize! I was not 100% sure myself. It's funny I race a car that I think would beat me no problem and win (GTO) but I once raced an EVO and lost. Go figure?
