Getting my Stang today: 2 simple questions
I'll be picking up my black GT CS from the dealership today; lowered, with aftermarket CAI and exhaust tuned, heh, heh...
My wife suggests getting a vanity license plate: MDLFCRSIS.
Anyway, I'd be grateful for any response to the following:
i. I know it's supposed to run happily on regular unleaded but is it wise to feed it Premium?
ii. Does anyone here blip the gas on downshift in a stickshift? I'm just wondering if the pedal arrangement lends itself to heel and toe.
Thanks guys.
PS will post pics in the near future.

+1 with Pegasus...Unless you are running a 91 or 93 octane tune, no benefit.
And yes, quite often I "blip" the gas on downshift.....could be why my gas mileage sucks.....Heel / Toe = no problem.
Congrats, and welcome,
Mike

Congrats on the new ride. Here in Florida we can only use 7 letters for a vanity plate, which hurts the creative mind when you're trying to be clever...Welcome, and as you will soon find out the people here are a wealth of knowlege.

slowhand, what aftermarket CAI comes with your car?
You should go to www.brenspeed.com and purchase a Xcal2 tuner with custom tunes for different octanes. Tell them what CAI you have and they'll make you custom tunes for it.

what does blip the gas mean and why would you need to use your heel and toe?

I thought that's what they meant, but I didn't understand why you needed your heel and toe until you meationed racing. I rev match if i'm dropping it into 3rd at 70mph, but i never have to use the brake and gas at the same time so that didn't make sense to me.

in road course racing have you ever seen how when all the cars are coming to a hard turn and they slow down, they rev match their cars, aka blip the throttle while downshifting.

"Heel and toe" is a bit of a misnomer, as the technique is more comfortably accomplished by rotating your right foot so that the outer edge can blip the gas while brake pressure is still being applied. It's only useful in competitive driving, really but it's satisfying to be able to brake hard into a corner, downshift (clutch in) match the revs simultaneously, complete the downshift (clutch out) and have the car set up to accelerate perfectly out of the apex. Otherwise, as moostang says, you may as well just blip without braking simultaneously.
