Oil Leak

Oil Leak
I was changing the oil on my 06 GT automatic yesterday and I noticed oil on the vertical cover on the front of the transmission (directly behind the oil pan), mostly on the bottom portion. It seems that the oil pan gasket is dry. I'm hoping it's not the crankshaft rear seal because then the exhaust has to come off, then the transmission, etc. and I hate having to bring it to the dealer. The garage floor does not show any spots yet, so I'll have to keep an eye on it.
Did anyone have this problem and what was the outcome?

RE: Oil Leak
nah - I have never had that problem at all and I have changed my oil many times. Dont tell them that you were changing the oil because they may not wanna fix it and try to say it was you. My buddy started to change his wifes oil and noticed a problem and they took their car to the dealer and the dealer said since they changed the oil that it voided a part of the warrenty. I dunno what part but I still wouldn't say ****. That was also a honda dealer so warrenty may have been slightly different.

RE: Oil Leak
If its an auto trans theres a TSB on it to silicone 2 bolts, they pulled mine and found it was blowing excess fluid out the vent, but did the TSB anyway. I have a good dealer so it was no sweat. Any dealer who says changin your oil voids warranty is full of BS, find another dealer.

RE: Oil Leak
1) Changing your own oil voids nothing. Yes, find another dealer.
2) If it's pink, it's tranny fluid, if it's black/brown, it's engine oil. wipe with a white paper towel and look.
3) Every Ford I have ever owned has, sooner or later, had a leaky rear seal in varying levels of severity (explorer, grand marquis, 5 out of 6 mustangs (the GT is still solid, but only 3K miles). First, check your valve covers and upper motor stuf to see if it is coming down from above. It sounds like you've already done that.
If you want to have the dealer fix it, you gotta ask yourself whether you want them to do all the surgery necessary to get the pan down to change the rear seal......only to have it leak again in the future.
If it's pink, then it's tranny fluid.....and that is actually a simpler (though not simple) repair.

RE: Oil Leak
Thanks for the comments. I'll have to get under there and look into it a little more thoroughly. Try to identify if it's really motor oil or tranny fluid. It didn't seem to be blowing back from the oil pan area. When I was finishing the oil change I didn't have time to investigate it.
