I go to the brushless car wash and get the double wax and polish thing.
Odd, very odd.....

No, it's completely brushless, even for the wheels, just jets of water and the spray wax. This is one of those car washes that is like a garage, you pull in till it says stop, put it in park, and the equipment moves above and beside you. Takes about 5-6 minutes then the door opens on the end you're facing and you pull out.

No brushes? Just water? Wish I'd gone to one of those! I drove for several hunder miles in misting rain and when I arrived at my vacation site and it was nice and sunny I went to one of those drive through car washes. Except this one had huge, automated, whirrling brushes that sounded like they would break through my roof! Never again!

I agree you may have wax residue on the wheels. Liquid dish soap may remove that and bring the shine back.
I use any ole wheel cleaner good for "All Wheels" with any finish, and dry them off to remove spots. Occasionally, I'll use the ICE wax on the wheels and black trim. I'm not real happy with this wax on the body (doesn't last long), but for black trim it's the best I've ever used...absolutely no white residue...which is why I have also used it on the wheels.
