Someone on here has done it, but I don't remember what the thread was about.

I have heard some talk of trying fit a muffler in front of the axle, so you have a long pipe out the back as the older Mustang do, but who knows if that will do it and I have spent too much money already to try it myself.
Has anyone tried this? Im thinking this might be my next experiment!!! This new design with the axel-back mufflers IMO, mimics much of the Corvette design. I wonder if Ford envied that idea and decided to adapt to a more sophisticated exhaust note, and also allow for consumers to be able to swap there mufflers easily in the comfort of their own garages... Just a little food for thought... But if anyone's tried to have the 05-UP GT custom fitted with some mufflers running parallel to the driveshaft please let me know!! Im very curious!!

Man I love the sound of the S197 exhaust, especially with flows. My last car was a 99 4v cobra with catted x pipe and flows and that sounded great but I really like the S197 sound much better. The 4v also had some nasty drone which isn't a problem at all with the s197 3v engine.

I'm going with the FRPP mufflers, the oval ones not the Stinger ones. I rented the GTH, and to me, that is the perfect sound! Cool, but not obnoxious.

I recently made the mistake of buying Stingers, had them on the car for one day! Man, they were deafening, esp at 1,800-2,000 RPM The drone (resonance) was over the top (for me, at least).

I should get a check from Borla for as much as I pimp there stuff but I gota say I looked and listened to everything I could find and IMO they just had that deep growl low drone sound that tickled my inner ear just right.

hm... I'd still like to get ahold of that guy who did this experimnet... Im thinking it would be possible (yet difficult) to finagle flowmasters (or some kind of muffler for that matter) into a compartment past the (H crossover) and before the axle. Hopefully that combined with my O/R prochamber would sound similar to the previous SN95's since the mufflers would have tailpipe after them!!

I think the new stangs sound a lot better in my opinion. I also feel the newer stangs have a much deeper exhaust note compared to the 99-04's and I don't think it's just my Borla's.

If you are trying to replicate the sound of an older model stang then good luck, because it's most likely not going to happen IMO. Not ragging on anybody for trying but think it will be a waste of money and much disappointment when you're looking for a sound you aren't going to get.

I have flowmasters and kooks long tubes and it sounds as good or better then my 98 cobra sounded with flowmasters and headers.
Personaly I like the drone from these cars.

+1!! As I noted earlier, I love my GTAs,Great sound, all stainless, 4" polished double walled tips, no drone, for $269 free shipping from ninosports. For anyone who thinks that the GTAs are not much different from stock: when I installed mine, I installed the right side only, then cranked her up; when idling, I couldn't hear the stock muffler.

I have the mufflers installed in front of the axle. Did this back in August of '06 and still love the sound.
I have Dynomax racing bullet mufflers mounted in front of the axle. The axle back mufflers were removed. This set up gives a deep rich tone. Do a search under 4.6L v8 specific for "custom exhaust" and you will find some soundclips and pictures of the install.
