well guys, it finally happened to me. i got 5 moving violations including a reckless driving charge on 12/31. i was only doing 90, but i was weaving through lanes and not using my turning signal. i was 100% sober too...just late for my gf's party.

anyway, i got charged with:

speeding 92 in a 55
improper lane usage
fail to use turn signal
following too closely
reckless driving

the cop said to plead not guilty and i should be able to bargain with the prosecutor in court to reduce it to just a speeding ticket with supervision (meaning nothing will go on my record). im not too sure it's gonna happen. any advice? and please spare the drive slower, stop being stupid, stop driving that way, comments, cause you know you all have driven like this when there weas almost no traffic on the road at one point or another.

fyi, i have 20 speeding tickets in the past 6 years, but only 1 on my record (
thank God for Illinois loopholes in the court system that allow you to basically drive as fast as you want as long as you are willing to pay the extra $$$). still, think i can bargain with 1 previous speeding ticket? it was in march 2006, if that matters. im in law school, but i have yet to study traffic tickets and i dont have class until well into next week.

any suggestions on how to handle this? and again, spare the "drive slower, you *******!" comments etc.
What loophole is that? How does it work to get out of 19 speeding tickets?

I think he's just f**king around with us. The "wants to be a lawyer" part smells fishy!

If you're not b.s.'ing - do us a favor - start driving as fast as you can in the rain. Fewer Mustangs means higher trade-in values!

If the cop said that, makes it known in court. With a well-constructed argument, you could force it down to just a speeding ticket without even addressing the reason you got pulled over.

This is why I ALWAYS use my turn signals and wait for two clicks of them before changing lanes. Predictive recklessness > obstinate recklessness.

Driving like that...is what makes Mustangs such cop magnets. I drive fast, but never unsafe. I've had no tickets in like 12yrs and have never had an accident(knock on wood). There's a difference between 'spirited driving' and 'dangerous driving'...and you are guilty of the latter. If you've been CAUGHT that many times...then you've most likely driven recklessly on a daily basis for quite awhile.
Remember something....if you cause an accident and/or injury(or death) while driving aggressively you'll serve serious jail time. Ok, I'm off my soapbox now.

how old is thread starter? last ticket i got was at least 12 years ago. if you feel the need to drive fast cause you're late, next time leave earlier.

Being from WI, I would think 20 speding tickets for a FIB is a little on the low side. Coming home from OH or MI numerous times and if you're not doing 20 over through IL, you're going to get passed like you're not even moving, and that's no exagerration.
