That's not extreme if you want to take care of your car. 4-5 full detailing jobs will get you pretty close to that price.

Get the water softener, like others said, youll gain much more than just spot free car washes.

I'm a mr clean user...but frankly I'll probably spend $500 in filters and soap over the course of a few years. Not sure how much you spend on the crystals and other stuff for the softener.....

As many others have said, there are many other bennies to the softening system that you are considering...including the fact that it makes your house that much more attractive when it's time to sell it.

I've got a water softener and still cant wash the car at home in the day. I can only do it at night or in the day while its raining because I cant dry it fast enough to stop the spots. The water gets softer but not soft enough, even after a fresh recharge.

You don't have any shade? If you have to you can rinse and dry half the car at a time. If water spots appear just srpay that area with water and redry, they should disappear.

why don't you just wax it after you wash it. I always dry with a chamois then wax. Wax makes a clean car look 100x better in my opinion.

OR on the alternative, just get one of those water filters that fits on the end of the garden hose.
