Questions before I buy 05 mustang gt
I am interested in buying this 2005 Mustang GT 5 spd. I love everything about the car, but my father told me that the resale values on these cars are complete ****. Is this statement true at all? What are some things I can say to prove him wrong? If I buy this car, I will probably be driving it for 4-5 years, and this car has 2100 miles on it. I also checked the KB price on 2003 mustang gts with 70,000 miles and they are going for $15,000.

Of course, nobody can predict the future regarding resale value on ANY car. However, these cars are holding their value very well right now. This new body style is much more popular than the previous generation of Mustang.
You can check the used values for the '05s on kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book) ornada.com (NADA price guidebook). If you have an Ebay account, go to Ebay and search the prices on completed auctions for late-model Mustangs.

wow low miles and well, one thing you can tell your dad is that they only made 145000 mustangs in 2005, 45000 were gt's and an average of 1 out of 10 were 5 spds. So if you do the math that is one of only 4500 5 spds made in 2005. Also it has the most potential of upgrades and the first ford except for the Ford GT to hold a value in a long time.

Cars are not an investment. That said, a very well maintained original '05 with low miles will probably be worth a good bit 20 years from now to the right buyer, but the equivalent '06 will be worth more 5 years from now. You should be researching insurance rates, gas mileageand reliability, not resale value.

They seem to be holding value well. Unless you get a really good price on the 05, you can probably spend a little more and get an 07. The short term resale will be better for the new one. Check the pricing and loan rates before you decide. New car rates are much lower and sometimes you will have a lower payment/final payoff with new vs. 1-2 yrs old.
