I don't know what this talk is about welding not working. Any reputable body shop will do work with no visable blemishes, and will stand behind their work for years to come. I have about 5hrs experience welding, and I can weld aluminum...I know that professionals can weld thin steel all day long.

You can get a new lid for $258. Not sure if it's worth it or not, you have to swap everything.
