I installed wifes 4.10's yesterday, and lowing springs. WOW! what a difference the gears make. I had forgotten just how badly the shorter gears killed low end. This thing is running great!!!!!

springs are simple, about 2 hrs total, just make sure you get a spring compressor. Now the gears are another story, they took me about 6 hrs.

You put the gears in yourself? I have don't think anybody here except for you did the gears themselves! Good for you!

gears aren't that hard, just time consuming, you have to fit the pinion several times to get the depth tolerance right.

You do not need anything extra to do springs, just a set of sprinf compressors. I have a friend that had a set i borrowed, but i would think autozone would have them in thier loaner tool deal

don't you have to re-align after the spring install?

Sweet, 4.10's are next for me. Definitely need them since it feels weak up to 3K rpms.
Springs are super easy, done them coutless times. s197s are the same, but like mentioned, buy some spring compressors or borrow some. i bought set since they are cheap. Gears....i won't go there, atleast not on my car. i'd rather do a motor swap, which to me is easy.
