CAI confusion???

RE: CAI confusion???
Bigjohn,
If you want to do things bit-by-bit, thensimply start with the tuner as your first mod and then go from there. The tuner will give you just as muchof a benefit of most tuneless CAIs becasue the tuner can address things that the CAIs never can: throttle lag, timing, transmission shift points (auto trans only), and so forth.
Then add your CAI and other mods later. A tuner is a key building block for many mods on this car.

Get the tuner and a CAI. and if you cant afford both I would reccomend saving up for both, it is definitly worth it, but if you dont want to... Get the tuner first, its very easy to use. All you basically have to do is plug it in under the steering wheel and it will tell you to turn the key to the on position, then all you do is select what tune you want by scrolling up and down. Then hit ok, then it will load it and you are done! If you have trouble, contact www.brenspeed.com and they are very helpful and they will even walk you through it while you're on the phone with them.

RE: CAI confusion???
A CAI without a tune will not give you much in performance. It will make your car sound cool. Prices - - they are quite simply - market driven. The more popular brands are able to command a higher price tag. The only advice from me, is be sure you buy a CAI that comes with a specific tune for it. Some of them will also come with a new MAF Sensor - often these will be the higher priced unites, because your paying for the MAF as well as the unit itself and a tune. Usually those that include a new MAF will also provide the most extra power. Beware using generic tunes with units that don’t come with a tune, or because you don’t want to pay to have your car tuned. You can actually diminish performance, or worse, cause you engine to be in constant or permanent fail-safe mode. Word of warning - - you will NOT increase gas mileage adding a CAI - in fact, in most cases you will drop several miles a gallon exponentially as you increase horsepower. In the best case you could expect to see your MPG stay around your current normal value. Good luck with your 30k vacuum cleaner!

My 2 cents: go with the granatelli with no tune required. Great bump in horsepower; you stay with regular gas; and contrary to some comments you'll pick up a couple of mpg ( I did).
