Default New mustangs modeled after 69's?

What year of mustang do the s197's take most of their styling cues from? Or put another way what year of classic mustang do our cars look most like?

This is important, i'm trying to think up a vanity plate.

Hey Moosestang.

I have several books with pictures and specs of Mustangs starting with 1964.

In my opinion, the new coupe takes styling cues from the 67 - 70 Mustangs. More closely, again IMO, the 1969. (just think of the vanity plate) If you look at the Wallpaper section of the forum, you can see some pictures by years - also google and you will see many pictures. I think with the new mustangs, especially the coupes (i have a vert unfortunately), you can make it look like almost any of those years with the right mods.

Yours looks like the Shelby with those colors (not sure which year - I'll look it up.)

Thanks! I have looked online and I was just looking for other opinions. I think from the front and rear it looks a lot like a 69

Hold on people..Take a close look at the 66. Our cars are a little beefier like the 69 but the suttle things really come out of the 66..

Here's the 69 boss..front end as well and it has more of the front shark profile then our cars do, don't you think

I think your right. If my car had hippy rear fenders like that 68 it'd be a dead ringer.

I was reading a Mustang book Isaw and B&Nlast year and aquarding to it, the current model is based on different parts of 1964 1/2 through 1970 models. The designers spoke of taking little ques from each of the different years.

Hope this helps
