Default GT Engine Sound on Start Up!

I have an '06 auto. GT and when I start the car up, (cold), its sounds like a damn diesel engine! (Well, not quite that bad, but you get the idea) When the engine "warms up" after a few minutes, it goes away.

Is it normal? Who else has this sound?

I was wondering if it was the "piston slap" that so many people talk about...Had the same sound on cold startup of my LS1 Vette, which many accuse the LS1 of the piston slap issue as well...

Not really alarmed about it, the car runs well, just curious who else noticed this....

Thanks for any replies!

Did you check the oil? I have on '06 GT as well, 15k miles, no start-up noises. It idles high, like all FI engines...that's it.

Cheers!

Yep, checked the oil, (ok), even had an oil change 2 weeks ago at 3k miles. Same thing.

Yeah, it idles high immediately, but kicks down to under 1,000 rpm, still hear it for a few minutes when idling.

i noticed wifes 05 made a little mechanical noise on startup. It turned out to be her power steering fluid was a little low, and until the pump warmed up, it kinda chattered like loose rocker arms. Filled it up and it went away. Just an idea????

It does sound different in this colder weather......show me a car that doesn't though. I would think since it takes a few minutes to warm up and sounds fine once warm that there is not a problem.

Ford categorizes 99% of 3v engine noises as "normal." These are noisy engines, will be hard to tell if something is giving out.

Luckily for me, my mom starts my car in the morning about 5-10 minutes before I go to school. I hear her start it up and it is relatively noisy, but when I get out to the car to leave, the noise has died down.

For me the start up rumbles is what makes me grind...specially since I have mine in a covered garage.
