the GT500 makes for a HORRIBLE track car. it was built for drag racing
Even more so than the mustang gt IMO.

It depends on how competitive you want to get here. The new ZO6 is very nice but if this is going to be a race car, I would look for a 2005 C6 Z51 car. It has the new body, 400hp (which is close to the 04 ZO6). And you can mod it to 500hp probably quite easily.

For the hell of it, I just looked on cars.com. There are a TON of 2005 corvettes on there with 30-40K miles or so for around 35K dollars. Perfect base for a track beast.

There is no such thing as a "daily driver/ Road race car".

Still have me confused...
You gonna do parking lot 'autocross kinda stuff'. If so just get a Mustang GT for street, and a couple year old latest generation Miata for developing your road course driving skills.
Well right now since I am young, I am just getting seat time. I usually go to Carolina Motorsports Park, Roebling, Road Atlanta, stuff like that. Most of the stuff that I do is just practice, or test and tune, not full out races or anything.
Later on when I get more experience, I can start to do actual races.
Cool, sounds great!

I know where you can get a immaculate 01 Z06 with 22k miles on it for 31,900. This car is so very nice, I almost bought it before I got my mustang. The lady who owned it before Paul was the president of theCorvette Society of Tulsa.Contact Paul Hodgson at Riverside Chevrolet in Tulsa, Ok. Their number is 918-446-2200. I have his cell number as well. If your interested you can pm me and I'll give it to you.

Hadthree C5s, last one was 02 Z06. The Z06 was a far better handling and responsive car than the other C5s and it was a 6 speed. I would go witha 02/03/04 C5Z06 (01 had 20 lesshp) overthe mustang for road racing, especially the almost 4000 pound GT500.

This is a Mustang forum if you want a car for roadracing this is not the place and you bought the wrong car to begin with!

Not trying to be an **** but that is the straight up truth of the matter.

It all comes down to the already light-weight Z06 having a huge advantage as a dedicated race car. It also has more cubes to work with than either Mustang you are considering.

You could always goto www.mpsautosalvage.com and pick up a 05 GT for under 8 and build it up for the track. Just my .02 .
