Changing rearend oil?

RE: Changing rearend oil?
Most likley not. I do not think there will be enough clearance to use a funnel. The only thing you might be able to try is to some how rig a hose to the top of the gear oil bottle and use the bottle. Why don't you want to use a pump? It makes thing so easy.

Thanks. I've never changed gear oil before so i wasn't sure if a pump was necessary or not.

You should also get a vacuum pump to draw the old gear oil out. Saves you from removing the cover and possible leaks resulting from such. Boy - a dollar bung and drain plug on the housing would have been great.

Now you tell me! I've allready been to carquest and advanced auto and got a hand pump that attaches to the quart of oil. Carquest had vaccum pumps that you use to suck the oil out and I guess squirt it in. Carquest is the only place in my area that carries royal purple gear oil.
I bought some grey gasket maker, but I might just get the vaccum pump and suck out the old oil. Is there any disadvantage to doing it that way?

Instead of buying another pump to suck the oil out simply go to Ace Hardware and buy a longer piece of clear tubing/hose to attach the the pump you already have and use it to suck the oil out.
