Default Buddy has an 05 GT...so he says...

Yeah so this guy at my school has a champagne color 2005+Mustang with a whole GT look, the fog lights, the emblems and all that. He tells all my buddies it's a GT. But...everytime we go out for lunch, I see him taking off from the parking lot and his car sounds like a fart box almost. Sounds NOTHING like the V8's I hear around school. I heard him shifting quickly too, and I snooped around and saw it's an auto.

I noticed today that his exhaust pipes (magnaflow's) were looking weird. His driver side pipe is hangin a few degrees lower than the passgenger side, then I got a closer look, and he doesn't even have the bumper cut-out for the driver side pipe. Now I'm convinced this is a V6, but he keeps telling everyone it's a GT. He wont lift his hood either!

I swear, some people...they just don't stop lying! I found it kinda funny. I think I'll keep my mouth shut and race him...lol. He's got nothing done to the car but the Magnaflow's. Who would win BTW? I have the 2V 4.6 so I heard it could be a close race sometimes. Any way to know for sure if it's a GT or not?

By the bumper alone. The GT's bumper cutouts are molded (they look more muscular and bulky), whereas the single cutout in the V6 doesn't have any extra molding around it, and if the bumper only has one cutout, there's no question it's a V6, unless he put a V6 bumper on a GT, which would be retarded. By the sounds on things, and his refusal to open the hood and prove it, it's definitely a 6-banger.

True. And incase you can't see the speedo (they're kind of deep in there if you can only look from the outside), check the seats. Leather GT seats have a whole bunch of sections the whole way across the bottom and up the seat, and are perforated. Leather V6 seats are just large, smooth leather sections on the bottom and up the seat.

Cloth GT seats I think say "GT" on them, and cloth V6 seats say "Mustang," but I'm not 100% about this. And if he changed to aftermarket seats, that will also kill this method.

Yeah theres no molding...His bumper looks EXACTLY like this...It's got the passenger side cut-out, no molding...but dual exhaust. The speedometer trick is another good one.

It says GT. I think it's the GT package you get from like magazines...but being a high schooler...he couldn't afford the cost of the body kits and paint.

well, first thing is to look at if he's got the full gt appearance package. that includes the rear bumper (which you already saw to be that of a V6), the front bumper/fascia with the fog lights, and then the side skirts.

plus what kind of wheels does he have? most likely the 17" bullits.
