Default Cheaper hood scoops - Xenon good?

I see the xenon scoop on ebay for about $100, anyone know how much a body shop would charge to paint + install it? I like how it looks so I'm thinking this might be a nice appearance mod for me

Also I keep hearing about this 3m tape stuff, I've only ever done duct tape myself, what's 3m? if you use it to secure a hood scoop, will it be reliable at high speeds? or just sustained low speeds for a long period of time? I really don't want to spend $100 bucks on a hood scoop and watch it fly off when I hit 60..

Thanks everyone : )

btw anyone have high res pics of their hood scoop? I have one high res of the xenon, it's really hard to tell if these are worth it cause most websites have horrible pictures. either the angle is too low, or the pic is about 10 pixels wide

I like the look of the Xenon, and they are reasonably priced. As for the 3M tape, I installed blackouts in between my rear tail lights about 2 months ago and the tape is already lifting. When I install the my scoop I will use the tape as well as screws, I dont want the scoop coming off at 65+++
A lot of people seem to think the tape is fine, where I live it gets cold several months of the year and I dont think the tape alone is good in colder weather.

I suppose you could always use the 3m tape then wrap it with the duct tape. That would be a different look.

I've never heard of anyoe who prepped the surface sufficiently, and lost anything. 95% of all cladding you see on any auto is 3M taped.

If it make you feel better, bolt it on. No harm there if you want the piece of mind.

And I like the Xeon scoop as well.

Hi, Body shops charge around $50/hour. If you get it and do some blocksanding first to get out imperfections you could save maybe $50 but only if you've done it before.(it's a pain believe me) The paint cost is around $50+. Primer/Color/Clear Coats. Figure $150-$200 to have it done right. As far as 3m tape it's good stuff but I have the same concern if it's only the tape. I see the the Rouch scoop is $152 and has 2 screw attachments plus the 3M tape and a template to mount it correctly. I plan on this myself so that's why I've learned this stuff. Have fun with your Mustang.
