Default TPMS on aftermarket rims

Does anyone have the TPMS sensors and strap installed on aftermarket rims?

My dealer had some aftermarket rims and tires put on before I purchased the car. However they didn't include anything for the TPMS system. When I asked them about it, they said there was no way to make it work. However, there are places that sell the sensors and straps that fit 20" rims. Is the dealer obligated to put the sensors on the car since they sold it to me brand new? Or is that a battle that I'm going to lose?

Im almost positive they must. I'll ask my manager but the sensors are government mandated now so that would be like selling a car without seat belts installed. We put the sensors on our 20 and 22 inch rims.

I believe it is mandated on any new cars sold after September. They can make it work, probably just didn't know how. -Joe

Yes it is. The only problem we have had with the larger bands is that they slip on the inside of chrome rims and become loose. What I want to try on the next one we do is to mount all 4 sensors in the spare tire since they only set off if under the set psi. I'm hoping it'll work.

I read that one guy also put his sensors in a PVC pipe and sealed it. Put a valve in it and pressurized it so the tpms thought they all had good psi.

Don't think this was an "option" for the 07 models, so you have a non-functional feature that the dealer should be taking care off...these dealers...I tell you...theypi$$ me off everyday.

No it is not a option on the 07. It is factory installed. You can not delete this. Now you can buy new bands for bigger wheels and use your old sensors to keep the system working. Napa sells the new bands for around $10 a piece. Just remember to put the sensor 180 out from the valve stem. If they put bigger wheels on your car then they should have giving you the sensors. Do you have to keep reseting the system when you start the car? If so take it back to the dealer and have them fix it.
