RE: ford racing cold air intakes
This is correct. You do not lose you warranty by installing a CAI and tune or any other mod for that matter. Some dealers do not care if you mod it and some do. They have to prove that your mod caused the problem otherwise they have to honor warranty.

So, GT Newbie, wouldyou mind tellingus what you paid for the whole package including the dealer install? Just trying to gauge whether this would be cost effective for me. I definitely want to keep the warranty intact. I was under the impression thatinstalling an aftermarket intake or mufflers, for example, would notnecessarily void your warranty. Is the warranty issue just related to the retune? Thanks.

I've got the FRPP (CAI, Ford racing tune and GTA mufflers),
and even though it will probably give you slightly less of a h.p. gain ("only" 20 h.p. compared to 25 - 30 for certain other combos) for more money, if you've got a new GT (under 1000 miles) then you'll be eligible to keep your full 3 year 36,000 mile warranty intact IF you have it installed by an authorized Ford Motorsport dealer (or a 12 month 12,000 warranty if you've still got less than 12,000 on the clock).

The total price including install and 7% New Jersey sales tax came to $1362.
Not "cheap" by any means, and other MF members who do the install themselves can save about $500 or so.
However, I thought it was worth every penny just to be able to keep my full 3 year warranty intact.
What howarmat says is THEORETICALLY true, but in "real-world" practice, a dealer can attribute almost anything that breaks at least INdirectly to your mods (except of course things like leaks), and you would then have to hire a lawyer to fight THEIR lawyers to "prove" your case- and most probably lose in the end because dealers will always have deeper pockets!
There are SOME dealers who are laid-back about mods and won't hang you out to dry, but many (most?) others see blaming your mods as an easy excuse for them to save money.
The service dept. chief at the dealer where I bought my Stang was quite clear about immediately voiding my warranty if I did ANY mods whatsoever, and I'd already resigned myself to waiting 3 years before getting a CAI & tune- UNTIL I suddenly discovered the fully authorized FRPP alternative (which most dealers are unaware of seeing as how it's such a recent development).

Most CAI tune combos are not making 30 hp, they make about 20 just like the FRPP. The FRPP tune is actually pretty good, but you cant modify anything with it.

Thanks for clearing that up xbone- I didn't realize that they had practically the same h.p. gain...!

Yes I would say that is a bit high. Otherwise people would be breaking 300 RWHP no prob with just a CAI and tune. And I don't know of many that can claim that. Most get to the 290 or so mark.

RE: ford racing cold air intakes
I hate to tell you Newbie, your CAI is not covered by Ford period. It expressely states in Ford's racing parts catalog in bold letters, that no warranty is given and they are not responsible for any damage that may be incurred because of that part. Since you've had to register your product with Ford to get the tuning code, if something major were to happen there is a good chance corporate Ford may not help if your dealer doesn't pony up (they have you on record for having a tune and CAI) Your dealer may stand behind their work for a while but who knows if something expensive were to break. This may not been an issue however if nothing fails, etc.
Dealers and service managers are very misleading and don't know the whole truth and are trying to sell you service. If you're cool with this great, however if it's an issue always check with Ford.
BTW, the warranty you're talking about is related to accessories such as a wheel locks, remote starter, vinyl stripping etc..... Crate motors have a 1 year 12k mile warranty.
