Reality Check: 20" Bling & Performance

RE: Reality Check: 20" Bling & Performance
I agree with most that it had nothing to do with the rims and all the blame goes to the driver of the car. Rims won't cause accidents people do! So what if the rear was lowered....did he have the suspension mods to keep the rear under control? What tire was he using? How was that rated in regards to traction? If the car doesn't hook right or goes all over the place it wasn't the rims and tires fault it is the driver's fault!? Wouldn't you agree? Ever hear the saying "Guns don't kill people ... people kill people". R u going to blame the gun for the murder of a family member or a friend or the person using it? I blame the person using it! I wouldn't blame the part/tool in this case itwas the driver. Hey JMO J

i agree the 20inch rims had nothing to do with it..
I have 20inch rims on mine too and the truth of the matter is that the diameter is the exact same as the 17" bullits... yes now my tires are lower in profile to make the diameters equalbut they are wider so more rubber is on the pavement...

I would say one of the major contributors to this incident is the fact that his tires are "brand new", as you say. Until a new tire has been scuffed, and the new rubber has had the slippery mould coatings rubbed off, it has no traction at all. This is true with all new tires from small automotive to high dollar racing tires. The exact reason a nascar driver spins the hell out of a new set of tires leaving their pit box. Has nothing to do with tire/rim size or whether the car was lowered or not.

If you lose control going straight, you shouldn't be allowed to drive something with this much power. I have no problem controlling long, 45* powerslides on 20s, and get as much traction with these wheels as the stockers even on drag radials. I've been to the track to drag race twice with them as well.

If anything the 20's acted as an anchor keeping the car on the road. If the tires are brand new they will not have as much traction. I always spin a new set of tires a few times to break them in.
