Default Dilemma! My beater is dead

I've been driving an old Dodge pickup I bought last fall so My Mustang could be safely tucked away for the winter.

So the past couple days it has been getting pretty hot and my heater has been changing from hot to cold on its own. I put a new thermostat in last night hoping it would solve the problem.

I head to work today and the thing gets so hot the cab is filling with smoke. I am currently commuting 80 miles round trip on a daily basis so this really sucks. I'm guessing the heater core is bad and I just don't want to dump any more cash into this beast.

Do I get the Stang out early? Winter is pretty much over but I know we will get one more good snowstorm, we always do. Plus I don't want to be putting upwards of 100 miles a day on my car.

I could rent one for a couple weeks but even then it's a temporary solution.

It's mot warm enough to ride my bike yet.

Damn this sucks[:@]

Is it to cold just to bypass the heater core?

Never thought of that, might be a good option.

Sounds like a climate control issue if its changing from hot to cold on its own. Or simple as a vacuum issue id the blend doors are control by vacuum. Not sure if they are electric solenoids, or moved by vacuum.

As mentioned above, bypass the heater core and dress alittle warmer. This should solve the problem and save you money and getting the stang dirty.

Could just bypass it and bring a coat. Could check with the junk yards and maybe pick one up cheap.

"Smoke" from the heater assembly means the fan has burned up. If the heat doesn't work and the fan does try making sure the anti freeze level is correct. If that doesn't help....buy another friggin coat and get some gloves. Besids the ground said spring will be early. If the fat rodent was correct, you only have about four more weeks to go.
