What's safer

What is safer for our cars in the long run - 10 years 60,000 miles

CAI with an aggressive canned tune
F/I (6-8 psi) with conservative dyno tune.[/ol]

Thanks

I would say that either option would be safe and perfectly reasonable, assuming that you do your normal maintenance (change your oil & filters, etc.)

However, technically, whichever route puts less stress on the engine is going to be safer. Thus, the non-supercharged route would techncially be safer....though expecting 60k miles with a conservative dyno tune is perfectly reasonable.

everything depends on the tune,

you could buy a blower, stick it right at the 450 HP mark, and tune it damn good, and it will last longer then a stock 4.6 that has been leaned out to no end.

it really depends. but, all things being equal, i'd have to say the F/I would put more stress on the engine, so over a long period of time, it might be a little more wear and tear. but an aggressive canned tune is never a good thing; whats aggressive for one car might be too much for another and cause problems.

Safe= keep it stock

But few of us enjoy taking it safe!

60000 miles in 10 years!!!! That is only 500 miles a month!!! Dude I do that in about a week and a half!!!! Holy crap!!! I take it this is your weekend car????

But then again...if you blow the bottom end out with a blower...well then you just get the FUN of putting it back together stronger and then you can run even MORE boost!!!!!!

Go for the blower!!! I mean if your only putting 500 miles a month on it then you should make those 500 miles as fun as possible!!!!!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

The car in question is an05 V6, it’s not a weekend car, I just do not live to far from work I guess.

I see a lot of V6 and V8 owners putting on a CAI with what I perceive to be an aggressive canned tune, maybe they are not that aggressive though. Now this is only good for about 20 rwhp VS. a blower on low boost for ~70 rwhp. Now if reliability is the same why not go F/I except the money of coarse.

Also can someone explain the difference between a good tuner and an average tuner (human not hand held)? If you do enough pulls on the dyno, can any average tuner get your car to the same place that a good experienced tuner can?

Really try an xcharger. It wont open boost unless you are at 3/4 throttle or somewhere around there. Doubt it will hve any extra strain on your engine.
