In the doors you can install 5x7" There are several good speakers available. I went with Polk DB570's but a number of people have installed Infinities, JL, MB Quartz etc. Speakers are very personal based on the sound you enjoy. A number of speaker stores offer an install guide showing which speakers will fit. There are a number of threads showing where the tabs on the speaker needed minor adjustament to get the in.

I'm interested to know too what size speakers are in the doors and rear deck.

I've looked at Crutchfield for aftermarket replacements and found "component" speakers with thismessage (note the 4th bullet):

Installation Details for your 2007 Mustang

»
Use the factory speaker brackets.

»
Use the factory speaker grilles.

»
A speaker adapter bracket is required, and it's included free with your speaker purchase.

»
Component speaker systems consist of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers. You'll install the woofers in your factory speaker openings, so we check those for fit in your car. You'll have to custom-mount the tweeters and crossovers, which usually requires drilling and running new wires.

The rear deck speakers are 6x8. I replaced mine with Infinity Kappas when I replaced my head unit. They made a major difference in sound quality, when coupled with the new head unit.

The factoryfront door speakers (not the subs) are "component" plate speakers. That is, the woofer and tweeter are actually separate speakers, combined on one "plate" that installs in one cutout opening. If you replace the front speakers, you will either need to replace them with a comparable plate speaker, or install your "woofer" part of the component speaker in the existing cutout, and then drill a new hole for the tweeter part of the speaker.

I must be missing the "it" in will it fit

According to Crutchfield, both 5x7 and 6x8, depending upon the speaker, will fit the front door. Here is the Crutchfield page for fit.....
