Oh man... I bet Ford is HATING that!... I can't imagine the cost of replacing the entire Air Bag cover because of a faulty logo - - I wonder if Ford outsourced the manufacturing of those!

Mine in my 05 looks great, with the exception of looking "cheap".

My pony is losing it's color so to speak and it did it almost immediately. My car was made in Sept. 04.

Good info everyone. It just goes to show that you'll never really know if it's "only your imagination" unless you ask the question.

I'm armed and ready for the dealer tomorrow....[sm=proof.gif]

I spoke to the dealer just before closing last night and they have found two problems with my car. First, my passenger airbag is defective, causing a blinking MIL in the instrument cluster on start-up. This was the original problem I had which made me want to take it in. Their fix: replace the passenger airbag.

Secondly, they have to replace the steering wheel airbag assembly to replace the pony emblem. Note that the tri-bar center cap and the airbag come as a single unit and are not field replaceable as separate parts. Therefore, the whole airbag assembly has to go. They will not be replacing the steering wheel however.

They're telling me 24 business-hours turnaround on the parts, which means Monday. I'll probably start harrassing them around noon.

Updates to follow...

Could this be caused by your airbag leaking?

Huh....? Leaking?

It appears to me that the base emblem was not cleaned properly before it was clearcoated. It just puzzles me how it could oxidize under the clearcoat when there's no way air can get to it. One of them unsolved mysteries I guess.....

Like Prof .Wizard said, they're probably made in China or something.

This would explain the total lack of aftermarket replacement caps.....
