Making the best out of the Shaker500
What would be the best way to get the best out of the Shaker 500? I was thinking about getting an equalizer for it.. Iwould love to get an aftermarket HU, switch out all the speakers/subs, but, the money's going towards exhaust, tune and cai, and I'm in school right now, and still gotta pay for the car/gas, so I'm thinking about keeping everything stock.. and maybe adding an amp or equalizer to get the best out of the stock system? Anyone know which route to go/advice?

I dont think there is much that you can do with the shaker itself to make it better. Switching the 4 6x9/5x7 out helps a good deal but the best solution is switch the HU out. Pretty much any HU would sound better than the shaker. The shaker is a good factory setup but it just cannot compare to aftermarket.

Changing out the 4 6x8s makes a big difference. It's inexpensive and really the only thing you need to do for now. I would do that first and go from there if you're still not satisfied.

Shaker 500, Shaker 1000. = two different sizes of boat anchors. I'm not impressed with the sound quality of either. I wish Ford would have offered an upgrade to a Bose system or something else of high quality.

honestly im pretty happy with the shaker 500 so far. i mean i know its not the best or anything but i'd rather turn the radio down and listen to the exhaust anyways.

Hmm, I'm a bit surpised by some of these comments.
I have the Shaker 500, and it sounds pretty good, and practically blows the windows out of the car. Like mast car stereos, it only really shines with a CD in the deck...the radio (even the satellite) sounds a bit weak.
My girlfriend just popped for an '07 Impala SS with the (very expensive) Bose optional system, and as much as I have twiddled around with the EQ and settings, it sounds awful, has no bottom end whatsoever and would have me running back to the dealership.
