An interesting point of view...
To me, MPG is directly related to pocket money: the higher the MPG, the more money stays in my pocket.

I didn't buy my Mustang to save a buck or two on gas. If that's what I wanted to do, then I wouldn't be getting rid of my Cavalier. I got a Mustang because it is a lot of fun to drive. I don't think that trying to get the best possible fuel mileage out of a fun car is a bad thing. If anything, I would think that more people would be doing the same. I look at it this way: I just bought a really fun 25 MPG car. Wouldn't it be great if it was a really fun, 30 MPG car? If I can keep at least the same performance and get better fuel mileage, then I think it's a good thing all around.
So before you start railing on me to "go buy a Prius", consider that I may have bought my car for a different reason than you. No better, no worse: just different.

So are you saying that owning a Mustang means completely disregarding fuel economy?

When the first Corvette gets DOD, then the Mustang probably should do it. Not that the Mustang is at the same performance level as a 'vette, but it is still a sports car. DOD works for SUV's and Minivans, but would be by "definition of purpose" the opposite of what sports cars are all about. More power = lower MPG.

wow... I can't believe the resistance to DOD. Personally, I like it... as long as it causes no mechanical issues. My GT gets a lot of highway miles, so it should help MPG. From what I have read, the technology is very seamless. As far as sound, my car is pretty quiet at cruising highway speeds (where DOD would kick in)anyway, plus I don't really need to impress anybody with the sound of my car passing them at 60+ . I do like the sound of my car when I accelerate hard, and as far as I know, with DOD all cylinders would be firing in that situation. So, basically, nodifference. In any event, some of you have made a good point that it will probably be some way to turn it off, so you guys can do that and sound cool as you slow down for gas stations more often. All in all, everyone will be happy!!!

ANd by the way, Mustangs already have incorporated "import technology" in the form of variable valve timing.

It's a good idea and if Ford doesn't do it, then other manufacturers will (and have). According to AAA the average price for a gallon of gas is $2.55 today. How long until it hits $3 and stays there?
I'd like to see a button on the dash that would allow me to switch from a performance mode to an economy mode, too. If you're stuck in bumper to bumper traffic then you don't need all of that power, you might as well save gas.

You are a dumbass if you bought a v8 car and looked passed the 18city 25 highway #'s posted on the car when you got in it. You ACTUALLY should have bought a scion or prius .

Ok.. new question... How much more is this technology going to cost us, and how long will it take in gas savingsto make that money back? I also don't like that fact that this is just one more thing to break...
