Default Whining Noise

I just recently noticed this whining noise that comes from the car at a slow speed during a turn. I checked the power steering fluid and it is ok. Anybody have any ideas what this might be?? It sounds like it is coming from the front and you can only really hear when you're in the car.

Yes, there are two TSB's about this problem. They are: TSB 04-24-20 (Axle Chatter) and TSB 06-12-11 (Axle Moan)...they apply to other Ford vehicles too. I got my 2004 Expedition fixed based on these TSB..

Do you know what they did to fix it? I really don't want to return the car back to stock i.e. remove CAI and re-tune.

I'll tell you exactly what to do: go to the dealership and ask the service manager to give you a 4oz. bottle of friction modifier for free under warranty. . .or just buy a bottle and avoid the dealership altogether. I did this on my 07 GT with 4000 miles on it, had the same noise, fixed it! You just get under the car [don't know how easy that is for you] and there is a plug not unlike the oil drain plug in the forward section of the differential box [can't remember the correct name for it. damn] Anyways, you just use a ratchet wrench or breaker bar to open it up [it's very tight] and squirt the friction modifier in there. Ford recommended doing 5 or more figure 8s in a parking lot to "work it in". I didn't, but the noise is gone. So for free or maybe $10 and an hour or so of your time you can cure the noise.

ps: the service foreman gave me the impression that some of the cars "fixed" under this TSB weren't "fixed" for long. apparently they go in and mess with the clutch pack and it may or may not fix the noise or actually cause other problems. there are some posts on this forum that discuss it in more detail. search for axle moan/groan or clutch pack and you'll find it.
