Stang vs Stang... i know, i know
I know this is one of those stupid "car vs car" questions but..
'07 GT Vs. '03 Mach 1?
How do they compare on the drag strip? Both are stock and manuals, and the '07 has the 3.55 gears w/ LSD. Given both drivers are equally good drag racers.
I ask because a friend of mine at work and I were talking, and he's trading in his '04 GT for a '03 Mach 1. He's a big Mustang guy, but he doesn't know all his facts 100% (thought his '04 GT had 300hp stock, actually 260 and thought the Mach 1 had 350hp, not 305, etc). The Mach 1 will be his 3rd sn95 Mustang (had a Cobra w/ the 320hp dohc 4v, the '04 GT and now the Mach 1), so I'd say his driving abilities in the car are better than mine as I've only driven a few Mustangs ('04 GT, a few 80's 5.0s, a couple different s197 GTs, etc), but only beating on friends cars or test drives. However, I have hundreds of racing seat time, mostly road race and autocross, but have been in drag racing w/ great results. So I'd say his knowledge of driving a Mustang Vs. my racing experience that we'd be pretty equal until I'd really get used to my new GT. This would be on our local drag strip, not street racing or anything stupid.
So yeah, how would a '07 GT (3.55/lsd) fair against a '03 Mach 1? Both being manuals, both on stock tires, both bone stock cars, and with equal drivers.
Thanks,
Jay

RE: Stang vs Stang... i know, i know
the mach is going to take you, but myb by a car length. guy doing stock dyno's are pulling in the 280ish Hp range, and the stock Gts are going at 270's with a manual. if he is as good of a driver as u think he his, ur going to have to have a quick R/T and some good shifts. the mach's are no joke, to me they have more *** in the seat power than the new GTs. not saying the GTs dont have power but it's more gradual*(i know its a typo) but with a intake and tune i'll take him no problem, unless u mess up ur launch or miss a gear. but hey crazier things have happened

At the drag strip I raced against a bone stock '03 Mach and against a '04Mach with a tune, exhaust and modified Intake. The stock '03 ran a 13.5, the '04 ran a 13.2 so I beat the first one and lost to the 2nd. My car at the time had a CAI and MAC mufflers.
This could still be a drivers race however depending on launch etc...

That's kind of what I guessed is that it would be a tenth or so faster. I'm guessing stock to stock it will be a tie (like say, out of 6 runs, i beat him 3, he beats me 3 type thing). But I plan to get a tune and maybe a off road x- or h-pipe right away and that will make enough difference that with a good run I'd take him.
Thanks again,
