Opinons on paint quote,
I went to a Ford dealer and asked how much paint and install would be on the hood I just got it was $380. But that just to paint it, not make it perfect. They dont do fiberglass work so they referred me to another shop. This shop is really high-end. I went there today and got a quote. $1000 for paint and install w/ hoodpins, they blend the fenders as well to make it perfect. I asked if they were going to paint the fenders anyway if they could shave the antenna, they said for another $100. Now I am without a doubt that this place would exceed my expectations. They also detail the car in and out before you get it back. Now this is quite the price differance. Should I keep looking around or do you think this is a fair price. I don't mind shelling out the money, but I don't want to be overpaying. Thanks for any input!

RE: Opinons on paint quote,
Well if it helps you gauge the estimate at all, I scraped the left side of my rear bumper. I took the car to the dealership and they charged me $413.00 to repaint and blend it in.
I know that I could've found a better deal, but that being said, $1000 dollars to do the hood doesn't seem that bad compared to 400 bucks to take care of a few scratches.

RE: Opinons on paint quote,
Keep in mind, you're paying for quality, this won't be a Maaco job for sure. I'd say it is a little high, but not waaaay out of the ballpark. I'm assuming they are fitting the hood and everything before paint, and painting both sides of it. You're looking at quite a bit of labor to fit the hood, shave where necessary, line up and drill hood pins, and shave the antenna, which should involve removing the fender or at least wheel and splashguard to do it right. Figure most shops charge $50-$75 an hour for labor on that kind of work and it will add up quickly. I'd say if they would come down to $850 or so jump on it.

RE: Opinons on paint quote,
If you want it done right it's going to cost that much. Most aftermarket hoods need extra work to make it look good and fit right. Also, the only way to make the paint match up is to have the fenders blended which is where the extra costs factor in. You might find a shop that will do it a little cheaper but not by much. Your better off paying a shop that has a good reputation then taking your chances with a place that you know nothing about.
