Tire recommendation...from consumers not sellers
Well I am finally back from the Gulf...again....
Since Idon't really care what the Tire Rack guy has to say and you all have all ready sold me on Brenspeed here goes...I am looking to get a set of 18X9 MACH 1 wheels for my 05 GT. 2 Questions:
1. Should I go 275X40 or 255X45
2. Anyone wanna recommend a brand of tire....Looking to keep it under $180/wheel (Kumho, Nitto, Continental?)
Thanks for the help...

If you need a tire for the snow, I'd get a dedicated snow tire and mount them on your stock rims. You won't believe the difference in traction between a dedicated snow radial and "all season" tires in the winter. Our cars have a nasty habit of throwing the tail out in corners with our stock tires in the snow. Also, you want a narrower tire for the snow, not a wider one, another reason to get separates.
Once you do that, you open yourself up to many more tire choices that offer superior grip and handling in the other 3 seasons, and you could go with a 275mm tire. Most popular here seems to be Nitto 555, BFG KDW2 and Toyo Proxes T1R, all highly rated at tire rack and their customers' feedback section.

I am one of the few people that think the Pirelli M&S is a good tire for the price. Rain might be their undoing though cause there are better tires for the wet. Avoid Continental's at all costs. They come stock on most BMW's and everyone reports how bad they are when they switch and realize what they were missing.
If you need an all season go for the Pirelis otherwise go with a BFG KDWs or Nitto 555. That size is a little smaller than stock so you might have a slightly bigger fender gap. 285/40/18 is the correct diameter but the are 1.5 times the price.
