Default Bad Tires

Well today, I had the GT out in the rain for the first time. The stockPerilli tires are still on there with almost full tread as the car only has 7,000 miles on it. I was very disappointed with their performance on the wet roads. They do seem to be decent on dry roads though. What are some of you guys running that have good traction on both wet and dry roads? I am looking for a good set of performacesummer tires. (I have the upgraded stock 17 inch wheels)

Thanks
-Eric

I just ditched my P-zeros for some BFG G-Force Sports. I like them a lot. They are very inexpensive, AA traction, quiet (even for 285s), and have a decent-looking tread pattern. I was going to get some KDW2 tires, but they did not have a 285 in 17" sizes.

BigDave, where did you purchase those BFG G-Force Sports from? And what size did you get them in?

I'm using michelin pilotsport ps2s, with those and the suspension setup I have, the rain feels like the dry.

new to the site, i work at discount tire... PIRELLIES SUCK!!!!!!!... and for the people that think their good..their overrated....

i would deffinately recomend the kuhmo ecsta's.. or the BFG g-forces.. GREAT TIRES.. good prices.. if you want mileage and a small increase in ride, look at michelin, but i think those are even a little overrated.

but deffintately goot to a Discount Tire, they will beat ur other quotes and have ur othe rmajor tire stores allready beat.

hope this helps -B.F.D.M.

I think tire rack has them, they are a new tire.

I agree with you about the poor wet performance but I think they are pretty good in the dry in a straight line. The tall sidewall is what hurts them the most. They are a hard tire 400 AA rating so once warm they have good grip but in the cold they are slick.

A good tire is the KDWs or the Nitto 555. The kumho SPT are pretty good for a cheap rain/dry tire. Just about anything that is not a M&S like the Pirellis is going to be better.

+1 on the machined wheels

Same tires here, same opinion, they might be expensive but the performance is real, doesnt matter how good your suspension is if you have the worng rubber.
Pilot Sports have excellent wet and dry traction and they are very quiet too.

I'd like to know what prices those other tires are compared to the stock Pirelli's!
Can you really beat $76???
BFG's in that huge size are like $160.
Pilotsports are over $200
Kuhmo's $120+...

Are they two times or 3 times better???

I have 35k on the pirellis, I dont think they are bad in rain. Or maybe I dont realize how much better other tires will be. I had an old Mustang and IMO none of them are that great in the rain.
