What's Wrong With This Picture?
I don't get it. Ford wonders why people aren't buying cars in droves from them anymore. I think I can help explain it:
I want to get a different set of rear end gears in my '06 GT. I wanted Ford to do it with Ford parts and Ford labor. Problem is my factory warranty will not cover the new part because it did not originally come with the car. I get the 12 month dealer installation warranty, but that's it. And to make matters worse, if that new rear end should fail my factory warranty is void if it leads to damage to other parts such as the drive shaft, bearings, or transmission. All this even if it's a Ford part installed by Ford technicians. What is my incentive to go back to Ford if this is all I get? Have they not a clue on how to gain new customers and become profitable again?

I'd suggest looking around for another dealership service center. Mine will cover my factory warranty provided I use Ford parts and they do the install.

Thats how most Stealerships do it, even a FRPP shop only warranties for 12 months (that Part) but you still retain the rest of your warranty on the rest of the car.

Unless that particular dealership is a reputable shop for rear end setups I wouldn't even bother. Most dealer installs I've heard of result in gear whine, and in some busted rear ends. Having an ASE cert and having experience are two different things.

Hey lets hate on Ford Motor company because the dealship is scamming you....wtf!
Get a proven gear guy to install it and you won't have as many problems and then we won't have to listen to the WHINE here!

I am going with a transmission and rear end shop to do the work. It just bugs me that Ford will warranty the parts for 36k or 50k miles if it comes from the factory, but not if a dealer does it afterwards. The warranty shouldn't be decided on what application it is used on.
