16s on GT

16s on GT
Ok, here's my question, my Mustang will be ran year round. And living in Wisconsin, our winters tend to be very light or very heavy. 300hp + 3" or more of snow = trouble unless you got some snow tires, at least the way I like to drive in snow. I plan to get some Blizzaks (have ran them on other cars of mine w/ really good results) on another set of rims.Just curious if the stock 16's off a base/v6 s197 will work on the GTs or if I'll have to run 17's. Would rather run the 16's as the tires will be cheaper and also the added sidewall will be nice for getting through the snow, etc.
Thanks,
Jay
PS- I did some searching and no one really answered had a clear cut answer, so I thought I'd just ask.

I not positive but I think the GT's have bigger front rotors than the base model. On myV6 w/stock rims, the caliper is real close the the wheel back side. If the rotor diameter was bigger I'd say you'd have clearance problems.

well one way is goto a tire ware house or townfair tire or some tire place and flat out ask them to put a 16 inch rim and see if there is clearence problems. If you are going to buy then they should help.

BTW. I'm from WI as well and made it through the winter this year on my stock 17" Pirellis. I bought some DD Bullits and my stock rims will become my winter rims.
BTW2. My cousin coaches the basketball team in Neenah. I owe him a visit soon. I'll keep an eye out for you.

wouldn't it be even cheaper to just get higher profile 17" Blizzaks? What is the cost of a set of 16" rims and tires versus having tires changed and balanced twice a year? Plus the transport and storage of just tires should be easier...
The clearance problems should be less if you will keep the stock ride height, since there's so much room there.

Well I'm in good with a few guys at Bergstrom (I used to work for Bergstrom Lexus), and once the car gets here (in the next 1-2wks) I'll see if they can grab a stock car that'sa base/v6 w/ 16's and just try one off it onto the front and rear of my car and see if it clears. I know it will in back, it's the front I'm worried about.
I know you can make it through winter on the Pirellis, but as soon as my car is fully broken in, it's getting Falken Azenis rt615 in 245/45-17, which are in no way a good tire for even the lightest of snow.
