Why does one need a different drive shaft?

Why does one need a different drive shaft?
The stock shaft is a two piece unit with a CV joint........weighing in at about 42 lbs. Needless to say, this is not the best setup for high performance applications. It is designed merely to provide a smooth, tame ride.
By going with a 1 pc aluminum or chromoly driveshaft, you are reducing rotational mass on the driveline by nearly half.....allowing more of your crank produced HP to make it to the rear wheels. This allows for an increase in RWHP and quicker engine revs.
Also, the stock shaft is only rated as realiable for up to 450rwhp or so. Most 1 pc shafts are good for 600+.

Rotating weight reduction. This decreases the parasidic drivetrain loss freeing up more power and letting the car rev quicker. Stock, we have 2-peice driveshaft that weighs around 42lbs. Knocking 25lbs off that weight has shown gains of up to .2 in the 1/4 mile.

Howdy all! New to the forum, but love the advice you guys give. Of course I am already getting bit by the mod bug and just ordered a Demolet CAI/Tune and SLP LM from Brenspeed.

Question is if you install a new one piece DS, does that require a tune change or anything?

And my bank account hates all the advice in these forums!

Thanks!!!!

No you don't need a tune. In comparison the under drive pulleys . It just frees up stress off the engine.
