GT 500 brakes

OK. So the brakes on these mustangs are terrible. I mean they are such pieces of junk I cant believe they came on our cars. Stopping is horrible and they fade early. Anyway, I read that the shelby has brembo front and maybe rear brakes. Are these reasonably priced and available. Also they would fit underneith shelby rims with no problems and replicas are cheap compared to other wheels. This may have been discussed before but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.:)

RE: GT 500 brakes

The latest (May) issue of Modified Mustangs has an article on the Shelby brake conversion. It's a decent kit (and price) for a street car but the rotors weigh a ton and suppposedly there can be issues with an internal, currently non-replaceable seal in the caliper that can melt during track use. My guess is that eventually there will be rebuild kits for the calipers but currently (according to the article), if the seal goes bad you have to replace the caliper.

The GT500 brakes are available from ford racing parts. I'm sure you could find some other dealers that sell them cheaper.
