What causes brakes to squeal?

RE: What causes brakes to squeal?
So, how much are pads? I'm just stating in my experience, it's cheaper and easier to service brakes than drive-line components, and a missed shift while downshiftingmight cause major financial headache when a simplejab of the brakes is all that's really needed. Just an opinion, not trying to start anything.

moostang... talk about perfect timing. i had the exact same problem this morning.
While i was backing out of my driveway today the brakes started squeaking and they felt like they were stuck for a moment. I only have 8K miles on my car rand this is the first time the car has ever done this.

It is the light braking that causes the glaze which causes squeal, sometimes a few hard brakings will get rid of the squeal.

is it just me or do the brakes fade fast when stopping from a high speed. i get this almost grinding feel from them when i bring it up over a hundred and then try to slow down. does this happen to anyone else?

Stock brakes on this car suck donkey balz. At the very least I recommend braided lines and a better pad. If you can afford to do more go for it.I still have mystock rearsandI am constantlytrying to kill the squeal and hiss. Can't wait to dump those POS too.

Usually just braking hard once would get rid of it, or if you'd rather not, just brake like normal and it'll go away after 2 or 3 stops.
I understand your concern though, break squeals are so ghetto (usually just rusty old beaters with old brakes) so I was very surprised (and maybe even a little embarassed) when my brand new Mustang did this in traffic (and it only had like 3000 miles on it the first time it squealed.)
