RE: 4.10's Who has them on their car
i paid 400 bucks for install, FRPP gears, basic install kit, and lube. If they charge over 250 for gear install, they are charging way to much.
You do get better city mileage with gears, your highway will drop around 1-3 mpg, but that's nothing. But if you get on it all the time, then your mpg will suck anyways.
With 4.30's, at 70mph i'm at 2500rpms, close to 3K rpms at 80 with manual tranny.

As far as drivability 4.10s are just fine. Its not like your going to be cruising at 15 mph turning 4k rpm. IMO they are GREAT for the city and find them to be better fortraffic. A lot of times I start in second but I don't really have to slip the clutch or nothing, just gas it and go. 4.10s are an extreme gear on a lot of older cars w/o an OD gear and short tires but on most new cars with taller tires and gearratios more set torward fuel economy 4.10s aren't so bad.

Love my 4.10's. I had the same reservations most everyone else has - you think you'l be cruising on the hwy at 6000 rpm. Not so.
By itself, the 4.10's do nothing to hurt drivability and in many cases make it easier in traffic.
Once you do it, you'll forget what all the fuss was about.

4.10's are awesome, no question about it. I had them and changed to 3.73's because of the type of driving I was doing. Two things to note though, when it's wet out ( I don't live in sunny calif.) you must be very careful with that throttle, the reason should be obvious. And two, when you're accelerating mildly as in traffic, although it's music to my ears, the higher revs makes every ****head out there think your trying to race him......The cost for my 4.10's was $320. parts and labor, $295. for the 3.73's....Enjoy your choice either one will put a smile on your face.
